more blogs and sites to check out

for those of you looking for inspiration or wondering what kind of artwork you want to produce, check out these places. there's a blog called sketchwich. lots of really inspiring stuff. once you get to the blog, check out the links, too. also check out design studio press. its a publishing company founded by concept artist scott robertson, an instructor at the art center college of design in pasadena, california. there's also a website called, which is a collection of visual artists from france. the artwork is amazing! the internet is a valuable resource for inspiration and instruction. you might even find out exactly what kind of work you want to do. it also means that all of these artists are our competition, so lets do what we can to help each other out!

i meant to show you guys some of my old photoshop work at the demo last thursday but sorta forgot. I think most of these were done in 05'. more importantly than lacking the technical photoshop abilities, i jus didnt have much experience with fundamental art aesthetics. It wasnt til i met professor D that my artwork really began to improve and it was guys like ant, damani and tim that showed me how to apply those skills digitally using photoshop around 2006.

no femenine flourescent entries? reschedule deadline or vote on the next theme?

J. C. Leyendecker

Anyone who's tried to find any books on this guy knows it's impossible, so I bought it on impulse when we went to the Brooklyn Museum and there it was!! But at the same time I was pretty sure there were putting it back into production and they were =( I lucked out and bought it full price, here's the link:

photoshop tutorial rendering

Thanks u guys for coming, and I can't thank Ciro and Damani enough =)

Thanks for coming!

Ciro and I really appreciated the turnout last night. We would both be more than happy to teach you guys more if anyone is interested. We have plenty of ideas in the works as far as getting everyone more knowledgeable about digital rendering. We are both still learning, but we'd be more than happy to share all we know. For those of you interested in seeing work by artists that work digitally, here are a few sites you can visit; (these are works by artist craig mullins) He was trained by one of photoshop's creators. There is also steambot, james paick, feng zhu, scott robertson, and goro fujita(area56), to name a few. many of these artists have careers in the game and film industry as well as publishing their own books.

photoshop tutorial renderings

thank you ciro and damani! my confidence has boosted bout eleventeen points cuz of ya'lls! do some more!

A lil something I made during Damani's tutorial. You and Ciro were awesome by the way, all that stuff was really useful, and I really wish my digital illustration class was like that every week haha. I very much hope that you fellas do some more.

Anybody else who made a polar bear during the tutorial put it up! I'm curious to see how different they are from one another.

Edit: I tried making it a little darker, and I think I like it better.

Exhale 1

We gots the hue!

Frankly, I've never colored this character before. Or, at least not since I've improved my abilities.

And I've known this character for maybe nine years.

Also, this is the first time a colored image I scanned has appeared vibrant on a monitor.

down the rabbit hole

This is what i'm currently working on for my AIW project. Still in it's rough state.

Bottom panel was originally from yesterday's part but I thought it'd work better separate to show his descent into madness.
