When the father asked for a more appropriate title, I rifled through the dollar box to find him something like Batman Adventures or something based off a cartoon. Seriously, there have been no kid friendly Batman comics since the early 80's. If the kid wasn't clearly 6, I'd have just warned the parent but still take his money.
You are very correct. Most of the main Batman titles are geared towards the teen audience. Can't expect a 6-year-old to read whatever Grant Morrison is blabbing about.
Similarly, I was questioning why parents brought children and toddlers or younger to watch The Dark Knight.
