I have the most fun when I'm sketching. When it comes to finishing a painting, all the discovery and wonder is gone. No magic :(

Nice sketch and I know what ya mean. I eventually just stopped pushing to a refined rendering and left things a bit more loose. As you go I think you'll eventually find that balance of tight rendering and energetic movement that suites your needs.
